A shadow, only, without true substance
Is the very essence of a lie.
And speaking them are humans in a trance
But who’s able to tell the reason why?

Perhaps the thought of a true service done
Perhaps the attempt to outright deceive
But he, only is deceived who tells one
‘Tis no harm done—he dares to believe.

But whatever the reason one would lie,
It goes against the grain of every truth,
This, I’ll believe until the day I die;
For I was taught right and wrong from my youth.
Bottom line; not only is a lie uncouth,
But it contradicts the essence of truth.
